There are many great organizations, local and statewide, all working hard in their respective lanes. If the idea of a coalition with strong, consistent messaging interests your organization:

United Neighbors is a coalition of neighborhood residential groups throughout California. Our common goal is to protect multi-family and single-family neighborhoods while supporting affordable and equitable housing for all. The rights of all residents and the rights of people needing affordable housing are bound together, and the solution to our affordable housing crisis requires thoughtful, effective, and rapid-acting legislation with community input.
United Neighbors looks forward to working with elected officials so they can implement good housing policy with community inputs and ideas. We encourage everyone to counteract the false narrative that single-family zoning is the cause of our affordable housing shortage and instead collaboratively solve the real problem – the urgent need for effective funding strategies.

SHIFT Bay Area promotes effective, efficient, sustainable governance rooted in democratic values and principles. We focus on housing, infrastructure, finance, and transportation locally and regionally in the Bay Area. ON. HOUSING People don't just need a home. They need access to adequate power, water, sewer, power, cell service, internet connectivity, and parking. SHIFT-Bay Area focuses on ensuring that any new housing meets all the needs that people have.

The California Alliance of Local Electeds (CALE) is a network of mayors, councilmembers and other elected officials who advocate in Sacramento on significant issues that contribute to the betterment of California’s cities, including preservation of local control and support of forward-thinking legislation.

Climate-intensified wildfires are a fact of life in our region and throughout California. More intense and frequent wildfires result in devastating loss of life and property – horrific wind-driven fires are jumping freeways and burning residences both within forests and far from the “Wildland Urban Interface.”
SAFRR commends the State Board of Forestry and Fire Protection’s (BOF) 2022 decision to uphold road standards that are protective of life by adopting and expanding statewide Minimum Fire Safe Road Regulations, despite opposition from development interests.
The intent of fire safe road standards is to provide for access by large firefighting equipment with simultaneous evacuation of residents and workers.

In 1965, a group of citizens stood up to the environmental destruction following uncontrolled development throughout the state. They formed the Planning and Conservation League (PCL) to prevent nonstop development from further devastating California’s air, lands, and waters, and to protect all those who call it home.
The PCL has remained at the forefront of California environmental policy. We are proud to have led the creation of some of the state’s most crucial environmental laws and policies, including the California Coastal Act, the Integrated Waste Management Act, and the California Environmental Quality Act. Learn more about PCL’s history.

Sacramento Legislators continue their attack on Cities ability to manage their own land-use and zoning. And CCLC is continuing our efforts to bring attention to the bills that impact cities in this way, and to lobby legislators to stop the passage of these types of bills, and instead support bills that encourage desired behaviors, while respecting the individuality of Cities.

ONV is a grassroots nonprofit sponsoring a ballot initiative to restore local authority over housing. We’re your neighbors, colleagues, and local leaders. We’re fighting for local democracy and truly affordable housing. We’re fighting for you.

Berkeley insists on passing laws that go way beyond already far-reaching and extreme State requirements. Single family zoning was eliminated in all cities in California, including Berkeley, as of September 2022 due to state law SB9. Rather than waiting to see how that would play out, our City Council passed the Middle Housing Ordinance, which went way beyond the requirements dictated in SB9. This and other actions of the Council degrade the livability of our city and our environment, while at the same time disrupt our neighborhoods and invite gentrification. Details

At the Center for Biological Diversity, we believe that the welfare of human beings is deeply linked to nature — to the existence in our world of a vast diversity of wild animals and plants. Because diversity has intrinsic value, and because its loss impoverishes society, we work to secure a future for all species, great and small, hovering on the brink of extinction. We do so through science, law and creative media, with a focus on protecting the lands, waters and climate that species need to survive.
We want those who come after us to inherit a world where the wild is still alive.

BECAUSE STATE HOUSING POLICY
FAVORS LUXURY OVER AFFORDABILITY,
REPLACES PLANNING WITH PROFITS,
IGNORES HAZARDS AND THE ENVIRONMENT,
AND SETS UP CITIES TO FAIL
CITIZEN MARIN was the precursor to WAKE UP CALIFORNIA
Information and resources are still stocked at this older site. Amy transitioned to WAKE UP when it became obvious that housing policy was a statewide issue,

This is not complicated. The people of Burbank want local control over our own streets. Decisions that permanently reshape our community should be made with us — not forced onto us by outside agencies with no stake in our city's future.
What gives LA Metro the right to dictate plans for our city regardless of whether residents want them, need them, or believe they are right for Burbank? The people of Burbank are tired of outside agencies telling us how we should live, what our streets should look like, and what kind of city we are allowed to become.

San Francisco has long been at the forefront of progressive policymaking nationally.
These policies are progressive not just because they are rooted in equity and justice, but because they actually work.
We hope you’ll find a community of like-minded individuals here at PROPEL who are interested in collaborating, uplifting and nerding out on progressive solutions to improve the city that we all love – so San Francisco can continue to be a beacon for other cities grappling with the same issues.

CEQA Works is a coalition of nearly 200 environmental justice and conservation organizations working to keep CEQA strong for California’s environment and communities.
The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) is an environmental and public health bill of rights for all Californians. CEQA is designed to ensure that people in every California community understand how land use decisions will impact their community’s future. The law requires that government agencies mitigate projects’ significant impacts on the environment and public health, and allows the public to hold those agencies accountable for their decisions.

Citizen Portal exists to help people understand what's actually happening in government — clearly, transparently, and without spin. Our mission is to illuminate government action to amplify transparency, provide clarity, and fuel civic engagement.
After helping millions of people understand where they come from at Ancestry.com — a lifelong mission to use technology to uplift humanity, expand access to knowledge, and strengthen civic trust — I turned to a question just as fundamental: how do we help people understand the systems that govern their lives today?
This is the beginning of something important — not just for Citizen Portal, but for all of us who believe an informed public strengthens democracy.

This initiative was created to support residents, small businesses, and neighborhoods in Altadena, California, as they navigate recovery, advocate for resources, and rebuild following the devastating Eaton Canyon Fires.
Community Preservation: It functions as an advocacy group to protect long-time residents and minority homeowners from displacement and predatory real estate practices.

Don’t Let City Council Destroy Beloved Commercial Districts!
Berkeley City Council is advancing massive up-zoning of the Elmwood, North Shattuck, and Solano Ave. shopping districts that would allow developers to replace our small, independent, locally-owned shops that have served our communities for decades – with 7 to 14 story apartment buildings.

Advocating to retain single family neighborhoods and make sure ALL neighborhoods are desirable places to live.
Sacramento city officials continue to press for the densification of established single-family neighborhoods, ignoring the need for trees and other impacts of cramming in more housing units in areas planned for moderate rather than high density.

After years of incredible dedication, two foundational groups are passing the torch. We thank LIVABLE for invaluable research into our housing laws, and our hats off to CATALYSTS for giving so many of us a voice and a way to stand up for our communities. Sites can still be resourced:

Thanks to Susan Kirsch, Maury Green, and Ray Lorber for many years of education, engagement, and empowering constituents to participate in local, regional and state housing policy decisions. The site will remain up and is full of resources. https://catalystsca.org

Members of Hills 2000 recognize and respect these founding principles: low density, homes with open space, pathways, sound environmental practices related to responsible water use, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing fire safety – not only to preserve the fragile urban/rural balance but is among the major reasons that our Town has proven to be such an inspirational place to live.
